Kankakee Neighborhood Master Plan
Located on 74 acres, this housing development will feature a mixed use combination of multi family units, single family units, commercial spaces, an event center set within an abandoned brick manufacturing facility and a vintage Airstream nightly rental area. These various components will be phased in over time.
The site is an active landfill facility that only accepts CCDD (Clean Construction Demolition Debris). A large percent of the buildings construction materials will come from recycled materials from the demolition industry. This includes shipping containers used for components of the new buildings, recycled concrete and gravel, reclaimed plumbing, cabinetry, doors and trim, and electrical fixtures.
The dwelling units will have solar panels on site, in additional to a planned very large scale community solar field and battery energy delivery system. The vintage Airstreams used in the overnight rental area will be fully renovated using a significant portion of recycled materials.
